In short
Visiting couples get married in Saint-Tropez with a symbolic ceremony and sign the legal papers at home, because French law requires a month of residence. Eight venues publish a wedding or private-hire offer in 2026, from Château de la Messardière and Hôtel de Paris to the wine estates of Cogolin, Gassin and Ramatuelle. Best months: late May to June and September. Most hotels close in mid-October.
Saint-Tropez is small. The village, the vineyards of Ramatuelle and Gassin and the long curve of Pampelonne all sit within a twenty minute drive of each other, which is exactly why it works for a wedding: guests sleep in one place, the ceremony happens in another and the party in a third, and nobody spends the day in a car. It also has rules of its own, a short season and a calendar that can wreck a weekend if you ignore it. This guide covers what we see couples get wrong: the legal side, the venues that actually host weddings, the right months, the real budget and how to plan the day around the light.
How does a wedding in Saint-Tropez actually work?
Almost every visiting couple holds a symbolic ceremony in Saint-Tropez and signs the legal paperwork at home. French law only lets you marry in a commune where one of you, or one of your parents, has a lasting tie, and residence means at least one month of continuous living there on the day the banns are published. The banns are then posted for ten days before the wedding can take place, and foreign partners usually add a certificate of being single, a certificate of custom law from their embassy and sworn translations (Service-Public, September 2026).
Two non-resident foreigners cannot marry at the Saint-Tropez town hall. A symbolic ceremony has no legal value, but it is what nearly every destination wedding on this coast is: vows, rings and a celebrant in a vineyard, on a terrace or above the beach. Your guests will not see a difference, and neither will your photographs. If you are thinking smaller, our guide on how to elope in Saint-Tropez covers the two-person version.
Which venues host weddings in Saint-Tropez? (2026)
Eight places on or around the peninsula publish a wedding or private-hire offer: two palace hotels by Airelles, the Hôtel de Paris and the Byblos in the village, Villa Marie above Pampelonne, and three wine estates in Cogolin, Gassin and Ramatuelle. We have only listed what each venue states itself, or what a named wedding directory publishes. Almost none of them publish a price.

The palace option: Château de la Messardière
The Messardière is the venue most couples picture when they say Saint-Tropez wedding: a nineteenth-century château on a 13 hectare estate with the whole of Pampelonne Bay below. Airelles states plainly that its venues can be reserved exclusively for weddings, and the estate includes its own beach club, Jardin Tropezina, which can be hired separately. For a photographer it is generous ground: terraces above the bay, pines and long views over the water.
In the village: Pan Deï Palais, Hôtel de Paris and the Byblos
If you want the wedding to feel like Saint-Tropez itself, with portraits in the lanes ten minutes from the reception, stay in the village. Pan Deï Palais is the intimate choice, twelve rooms around a garden and a mosaic pool, and the whole hotel can be privatised. Hôtel de Paris publishes the largest capacities in the village, up to 250 guests on its patio, plus a rooftop and a beach venue. The Byblos turns its grounds over to private events; it describes the format as tailor-made rather than publishing a wedding package.
Above Pampelonne: Villa Marie
A boutique hotel in the pines of Ramatuelle with a dedicated wedding and events contact. It suits a smaller wedding that wants the beach in the background without being on the beach. Note its season: it opened on 13 May and closed on 2 October in 2026, earlier than the palaces.
The vineyard weddings: Saint-Maur, Bourrian, Pampelonne
The estates are where large weddings happen. Château Saint-Maur, a Côtes de Provence cru classé in Cogolin, runs the whole day on site, ceremony in the vines or gardens, cocktail, dinner and party, for up to 200 guests, with music outdoors until midnight and indoors after. Domaine du Bourrian in Gassin is listed for up to 350 guests, with exclusive use from €20,000 for 24 hours on Bridebook, a mandatory full-service wedding planner, and no furniture supplied: budget for the rental company. Château de Pampelonne in Ramatuelle is listed as a reception venue with a park and a chapel; ask the estate directly, its own site does not advertise events.
Boats and beaches
Beach clubs and yachts are better for the moments around the wedding than for the ceremony itself: a welcome evening, a sunset cruise for the two of you between the ceremony and dinner, a recovery lunch the next day. Hôtel de Paris publishes a beach venue for receptions, and crewed charters from 13 to more than 80 metres leave from the port all year. Our guide to the best spots for a yacht party on the Riviera covers the anchorages.
When should you get married in Saint-Tropez?
Late May to June, or September to the first days of October. Those weeks give you warm evenings, open hotels and a village that still moves. July and August are possible but hard: the Tourism Office warns of very heavy visitor numbers, dense traffic all day and car parks that fill fast, and advises arriving before 8:30 in the morning. In August 2024 the mayor, Sylvie Siri, went further, telling visitors not to come in summer, with around 80,000 people a day in a village of about 4,000 residents.
The season also ends abruptly. Most palace hotels open between late April and mid-May and close in early or mid-October: in 2026 the Byblos and the Messardière both closed on 11 October, Villa Marie on 2 October. A wedding after mid-October means a private villa or an estate, not a hotel.
Saint-Tropez wedding calendar, dates that change your plans (2026)
| When | What happens | Effect on a wedding |
|---|---|---|
| Late April to mid-May | Hotels reopen | Venues available, some still warming up their season |
| 16 to 18 May | Les Bravades, the patron saint's festival held since 1558 | Processions and gunfire salutes in the village, rooms in demand |
| Late May to June | Best window | Long evenings, open venues, manageable traffic |
| July and August | Peak season | Heavy traffic, full car parks, highest prices |
| September | Best window | Warm sea, softer light, calmer roads |
| Late September to early October | Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, 26 September to 4 October in 2026 | About 3,500 crew in town, accommodation at its autumn peak |
| Early to mid-October | Hotels close | Only villas and estates remain |
Dates from the Saint-Tropez Tourism Office and Bateaux.com for 2026. Check the following year's calendar before fixing a date.
If your date falls during Les Voiles or the Bravades, it is not a reason to move it, both make extraordinary backdrops, but book rooms first and everything else second.
How much does a wedding in Saint-Tropez cost?
More than the French average, which is already high. Mariages.net puts the average French wedding at €19,293 in 2025, around 90 guests at €215 per guest, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur at €20,333, the third most expensive region in the country. Saint-Tropez sits well above that regional figure: a single estate listed from €20,000 for 24 hours of exclusive use already matches the national average before a plate is served.
Where the money goes is fairly predictable. Venue hire and catering take the largest share. Then come the lines couples underestimate: accommodation for guests in high season, transfers, because there is no railway station in Saint-Tropez, furniture and lighting at estates that supply none, and a planner, which some venues require.
Photography is a small line by comparison. Our rates are published and all taxes included, with no travel fee anywhere between Saint-Tropez and Menton:

How do you plan the wedding day around the light?
Set the ceremony so that it ends about an hour before sunset, then take twenty to thirty minutes for portraits while the guests are at the cocktail. In Saint-Tropez the sun sets around 21:15 in late June and around 19:45 in mid-September, so a ceremony starting at about 19:00 in June, or 17:30 in September, lands the portraits in the best light. The old harbour faces north-west and catches the last warm light of the day, which is why couples marrying in the village often walk down to the quays between ceremony and dinner.
Three practical points we build into every timeline:
- Portraits in the village need a plan. A professional shoot on public land in Saint-Tropez requires a municipal permit filed at least seven days ahead. We handle the application when the portraits leave the venue. Details in our Saint-Tropez photographer guide.
- Avoid Tuesday and Saturday mornings in the village. The Place des Lices market fills the centre, and the Tourism Office flags both days for traffic.
- Plan for the wind. The mistral can blow for a day or three, even in summer. We always keep a sheltered second spot for portraits, a courtyard, a vine row or the lee side of a terrace.
For the portrait locations themselves, our guide to the best photo spots in Saint-Tropez maps each one by hour.
