Gourdon and Tourrettes-sur-Loup: the quietest perched villages on the Riviera

The 80 km view from Place Victoria, stone lanes on the cliff edge and the village of violets.

In short

Gourdon and Tourrettes-sur-Loup are perched villages behind Grasse and Vence. Gourdon, at 760 m and one of the Plus Beaux Villages de France, looks along about 80 km of coast from Place Victoria. Tourrettes-sur-Loup is the village of violets, with its Fête des Violettes on 6 and 7 March 2027. Go on clear spring or autumn mornings.

Gourdon and Tourrettes-sur-Loup are two perched villages in the hills behind Grasse and Vence, on either side of the Loup valley. They are quieter than Èze or Saint-Paul, and the views are just as wide.

Here is why they are worth the drive, for a walk, a session or a proposal.

Why choose Gourdon and Tourrettes-sur-Loup?

For the biggest views on the Riviera, without the crowds. Gourdon looks along about 80 km of coast. Tourrettes is a stone village built like a wall on its ridge. Both feel like the real backcountry, a short drive from the sea.

Where are the best photo spots?

Is Gourdon a good place to propose?

Yes, in the morning on Place Victoria. The air is clearest early, the terrace is calm and the view runs all the way to the sea. It is a rare proposal spot with height, silence and space.

When should you go?

Spring and autumn, early in the day. Clear mornings give the longest views. In early March, the Fête des Violettes fills Tourrettes with flower floats. Combine the villages with the flower fields of Grasse: see our Grasse guide.
