In short
Èze is a perched village between Nice and Monaco, about 10 km from Nice. The best photos are in its vaulted lanes and at the top of the exotic garden, 429 m above the sea, which opens at 9:00 and costs 10 €. Go at opening time to avoid the crowds. The Nietzsche path climbs 2.1 km from the sea in about an hour.
Èze is the village people picture when they think of the Riviera from above: stone lanes stacked on a rock, with the sea 400 metres below. It sits between Nice and Monaco, and it rewards an early start more than any other village on the coast.
This short guide is for a couple planning a photo session or a proposal there: where to stand, when to go, and how to arrive.

Why is Èze worth the trip?
Few places give you a medieval village and an open sea view in the same frame. The lanes are narrow, the walls are pale stone, and every gap between two houses shows the coast. The exotic garden at the summit adds cactus and succulents against the blue, which reads beautifully in photos.
Where are the best photo spots in Èze?
- The vaulted passages and stairs of the old village, for soft shade and texture.
- The summit of the exotic garden, for the widest view of the coast. It opens at 9:00.
- The Nietzsche path, a steep trail between the village and the sea, for wild pines and rock.
Arrive at opening time. Èze fills with day trips from late morning, and the lanes are too narrow to frame around a crowd.
Is Èze a good place to propose?
Yes, if you go early. The garden summit just after 9:00 is quiet and has the view people hope for. For more privacy, a bend on the Nietzsche path works well, though it means a real climb. Our guide to where to propose on the French Riviera compares Èze with the other options.
How do you get to Èze?
By car or driver from Nice, or on foot from the sea. The Nietzsche path climbs 2.1 km from Èze-sur-Mer train station to the village. The tourist office strongly discourages it for young children, so wear walking shoes and keep the heels for the photos.
